Warrior Dash

by Sheila on March 22, 2012

The Warrior Dash is a cool 3.12 mile crazy-ass obstacle course run.  This year there will be 2 in Ohio.  The 1st is a bit south of Columbus in June and the 2nd is in NE Ohio between Akron and Massillon at Clays Park in Lawrence Twp. on Aug 25th & 26th.

The link will take you to the site which has a great video of a typical course. It is kinda like a really intense bootcamp. From what I gather most people finish it within about 30 minutes. It is basically a 5K with a bunch of stuff to climb over or wade through or crawl under!

I used to go to Clays Park when I was a kid and loved it then.  However, it looks like they have completely expanded it into a very cool place.  You can check it out here.  I imagine campsites and cabins will book quickly for this event.

The fee for the race is $65 and you can register on behalf of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and fundraise. Check out the page here.  St. Jude’s is my primary charity.

I first heard of this event last year about 1 week before the race.  So, I put it on my calendar for this year and I’m really looking forward to it.  I love this kind of stuff!  It appeals to me in a way in which running simply does not.I was actually given the archetype of  “Soulful Warrior” in a training program. It resonated with me AND I want to call forth the physical side for this in a Xena, Warrior Princess, kind of way.  Someone once said I looked like her but with blonde hair and said I should go as her for Halloween.  I thought it would be a bit to risque for me then!

There are training tips on the site and they suggest you begin about 6-8 weeks before the event. It’s nice because they have suggestions for all levels of fitness – Virgin Warrior-Causal Warrior-Ultimate Warrior. They provide a whole set of training videos  you can see here.

So, are you a Warrior?
