Embrace Your Weirdness

by Sheila on September 21, 2011

Anyone who has read this blog knows how much I value Seth Godin. He has a new book out, We are All Weird.

I can certainly relate to this. I have always felt like I don’t fit in anywhere. Yet, there have been times when I meet someone who actually “gets me” and it is always great to feel seen!

We are socilaized from an early age to fit in and get along. And, of course, we do want to, especially as young adolescents. However, after traveling through life a bit, I hope we all start to see that simply being who we are is not only enough, it is the only thing that will bring us to fulfillment.

I had a friend once say to me that he was going to do what he thought was wanted and said, “I decided to just be me.” THAT will never be wrong. And if it is in some situation, then that situation is not for us.

We are not for everyone. And within business, there is an old adage that says, “If everyone is your customer, no one is your customer.” The sooner we learn this in our professional AND personal lives, the better off we will be in the long run.

In the words of the philosopher, Dr. Seuss:

“We are all a little weird and life’s a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.”

So true!

What I find quite appealing about Seth’s books is that they are concise and to the point. And, he never gives a step by step…that is most often just a bunch of bogus shit. He illumiantes and asks the reader to move – however that might look for them.

Check it out; I just ordered it!

As always, I enjoy your take on life and the way you present it. When I was your client looking for work I did my due deligents and with your help I found that what I wanted to do was not in my resume but came as a spiritual direction of being the person I am. You got me there.  WEIRD isn’t it.
Someone once said to me “Keep on doing what you do best. Be yourself ”
God Bless You.

Sheila, the book was already on my Kindle app before I got your note.  I am also a Seth Godin Junkie.  My Kindle is loaded with several of his recent Domino Project books, and I’ll be catching up while I travel next week.

Great post, by the way… his message about being weird resonates w/ me, too (I wonder why????).  In happiness, J
